About US Powerball
US Powerball is by far the American Mega Lottery. With the incredible jackpot of US$1.6 Billion in January 2016, this lottery has gained worldwide attraction and raised the bar for lottery jackpots finally over the Billion mark. With the USA Powerball, you will find 2 pools of balls (one of which is red and the other is white). The white ones are numbered 1-69, and the red ones 1-26. There will be 5 white balls drawn and 1 red, called the “Powerball”, and in order to win the jackpot, all 6 numbers need to be matched. It runs every Wednesday and Saturday night at 10.59 Eastern Time in Tallahassee.
History of US Powerball
The Powerball lottery is one of the most popular in the USA, especially when the jackpots can reach over US$1.6 billion! Powerball replaced another US lottery game called Lotto America in April 1992 and was the first lottery to use two drums to spin the balls.
The minimum jackpot started at US$2 million back in 1992 and over the years has continued to increase, with the jackpot now starting at US$40 million.
With the fantastic jackpot of US$1.6 billion in January 2016, this lottery wrote history, replacing the other big American Lottery Mega Millions which held the jackpot record at US$650 Million before. Having broken the 1 billion barrier for the first time, US Powerball attracted attention globally and many people all over the world realised that it is possible now with websites, such as LottoPlus, offering the US Powerball Syndicate to participate in this lottery.
How to play US Powerball
To play US Powerball players pick 5 main numbers from 1-69 and 1 Powerball number from 1-26. At LottoPlus, the tickets played by the syndicate are randomly pre-chosen. The cost of a lottery ticket is $2 to play – to play US Powerball you will need to be in America to purchase a ticket, otherwise playing at LottoPlus helps play directly into this lottery.
There are 9 different ways to win a prize in the US Powerball lottery so even if you match just 1 Powerball number, you’ll win a cash prize…but match all 5 numbers plus the Powerball number and you’ll be walking away with the jackpot prize!
Largest Jackpot Record
The US Powerball has made some headlines since it’s launched. In January 2016 – it was announced that there was a mammoth US$1.6 billion windfall to be shared amongst 3 lucky winners. These winners had the option to either share a lump sum of $930 million or else take annual payments across 29 years. They all took the 29 years payment.
Other than this Mega Jackpot, the jackpots of US Powerball rise quickly and jackpots of several hundred million US Dollar are now very common.
Charities US Powerball Supports
As this is a multi-state lottery, each state receives a share of the profits of the sales made in the state. The state then decides what will happen to the money and which charitable causes the profits should go to. As it is usual in America, most lottery profits go into education and colleague funds for low-income students and towards charities that support medical causes for underprivileged members of society.
